CASE NAME: The Disappearance of Karen Naomi.
By Team 21 Jump-Street (Pedro, Dylan, Alex, Mary Rose)
THIS IS A GROUP META NARRATIVE
Introduction
On a gloomy Tuesday, we gathered as a group of detectives to solve the mystery of a bag Jim gave us. There were a lot of random things on that bag and we needed to come up with a story for all that stuff.

Materials
We used Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Illustrator Draw and Fuse to create scenes for our story as well as characters and places they have been.

Here is our story:
Story Outline
Karen Naomi went missing since the late 90’s, the Torontonian actress was last seen with the Hollywood producer Dale Robertson leaving (The Diamond Jubilee) at night.

She lived her whole life in that neighbourhood of Locust Hill, attended MTSD (Metro Toronto School for the Deaf) as a child. Karen had hearing complications in her youth but was not fully Deaf.

Karen was attracted to the celebrity lifestyle, but specifically towards the aesthetic of old Hollywood glamour, and had dreams of being an actress throughout high school. She was very fashionable even as a young adult, spending money on luxury items such as jewelry, clothing, and makeup. (Her fascination of old Hollywood came from her mother, who often worked with pageantry models before she was born. This connection may explain why Karen has old photos of a woman in her bag)

Karen married her husband Thomas Phillip van Hahn in 1988. Thomas was a descendant of German immigrants, and helped run a second-hand store that sold vintage items. This store is where Karen and Thomas had first met, one of the first items she bought was a Kewpie doll, which was found in the evidence.) During this time she had put down her actress dreams for the married life.

Dale Robertson had known of Karen because he grew up in the same neighbourhood, and reconnected with her during a high school reuinion. Karen learned that he was a casting director working in Hollywood, and was working on a new film, Three Kings.

Karen wanted the role of Adrianna in Dales screenplay, but was in her 40s during the time of casting, which was considered socially as "too old" for a lead woman. She decided to pawn some of her vintage items, to buy cocaine as a bribe to win the part. Karen knew Dale used cocaine, but was unaware of the severity of his addiction.

She met him at the Diamond Jubilee after he had told her to contact him through his number he left on a pack of matches. This is where he wanted her to meet him to discuss the role which is when she brought the cocaine to convince him she was perfect for the part.

A year later in 1999, Karen received a letter from Dale to play the role, as he left her a note on the finished screenplay script reading he was convinced she was perfect for the part. She promptly divorced her husband, telling him that she had "fallen in love" with another man, and changed back to her maiden name, Karen Naomi.

When she arrived in Hollywood, she realized that she had gotten herself into a horrible situation. She had never been casted as Adrianna after all. Dale was simply using her as his own personal drug dealer. She met with Dale and confronted him publicly. He denied any connected and proceeded to frame her as a deranged fan. Karen believed that she was unable to stay in Hollywood or return back to Toronto, due to her shame. She had left the rest of her cocaine at Dale's apartment as a "gift"... but not before, mixing it in with a lot of prescription drugs.

Dale was, weeks later, arrested for verbal and physical harassment towards non-white attendees in a nightclub in southern California. Dale claims he has no memory of the incident, but admits he had taken some "spiked drugs" before it happened.

Karen Naomi has not been seen since.

WHY SHE IS MISSING

In 2003, Dale was diagnosed with paranoia caused by his abuse of cocaine. He went to rehab after that and has been medicated and going to therapy ever since. He has tried to sue Karen Naomi for "drugging" him.

Karen was last reported being seen at a beach in southern California, in a red brimmed hat. Possibly reminiscing what could've been her celebrity life, before fleeing the state. Many police departments have suspected to have gone into Mexico in hiding. This comes 1999 after leaving Hollywood, due to abuse and sexual misconduct that Dale Robertson was never found guilty of. We here, at 21 Jump Street, believe that Karen Naomi purposely left her bag with evidence on the beach in order for the clues against Dale Robertson, to be found.

Observation 4: Dale Robertson was paranoid because of cocaine.
Based off of the doctor’s note and the fact there was a lot of drugs found.

Our Creative process:
We, as group, gathered all the information that could be related such as names that appeared twice among the stuff on the bag, phone numbers and locations, most of them within the GTA. We chose some key names to be our main characters, those were sketched and then animated to make the story Hollywood-ish.
Character Bio: Thomas Phillip van Hahn
Name: Thomas Phillip van Hahn
Age: 34
Occupation: Unknown
Height: 1,8m
Weight: 61kg
Nationality: German
Skin Tone: Caucasian
Characteristics: Blonde Hair, Brown Eyes

Thomas was born in Toronto, but is a descendant of German immigrants. His family ran an antiques store, which he worked at for most of his life up until current day. This store is where he had first met Karen, who he remarked had a fascination with "old Hollywood". Thomas had always felt like an outsider from other teenagers, as he was a bit of an old-fashioned person himself, which is why he believed he and his wife were a perfect match. They married in 1988, and had a backyard wedding. As time went on, Thomas had noticed that his wife seemed unsatisfied with the married life. He encouraged her to try out for acting roles in Toronto, but knew her heart belonged to Hollywood. Later, he suspected that Karen was having an affair with Dale Robertson due to the amount of time they would spend together. Karen would always deny this, up until one day when she abruptly left him. Thomas spent years in grief over what happened. After being questioned about the case, Thomas says that, "I feel like the more I hear, the less I know. I think she was just lost, chasing after a dream. I don't know what happened. I don't know if I forgive her. I just hope for her sake, she can come forward with the truth."

Character Bio: Dale Robertson

Name: Dale (Bob) Robertson
Age: 38
Occupation: Film Producer
Height: 1,70
Weight: 96kg
Nationality: American (California)
Skintone: Caucasian
Characteristics: Brown hair and green eyes

Dale lived sometime in Locust Hill, a neighbourhood in Rosedale, Toronto. During that time he met Karen Naomi, which later would audition for one of his screenplays. He was the last person connected to Karen before her disappearing. Dale is a heavy cocaine user which led him to develop an acute paranoia leaving him unfit to being prosecuted. Dale likes to wear cool coloured tuxedos because it reminds him of sunny California, a place he loves and was born in, it also blends in any drop of cocaine that he could have dropped while using it. He spent some time living in Rosedale, a rich community in Toronto, this made him very luxurious and fancy. He started working in the film industry because he was inspired by Karen`s roles during the time they lived in the same neighbourhood. He also happens to be born in California so it was geographically easy for him to get in the industry. He made a lot of auditions for his movies in Toronto, in one of them (Three Kings) he met Karen again and eventually signed her in for the Role of Adrianna.

Characteristics: White hair and green eyes

Dr Wendy Franks lived in Rosedale, Toronto. She was running her own for profit clinic. Wendy has been running her own clinic since 1979 and has since expanded. She has been focusing on her profession her whole life and has never found herself connected to any crime related incidents up until she met Mr Robertson in November 13, 2001. It's been a little bit over two years now since she first met Mr Robertson, and on November 16, 2003. Dr Wendy Franks felt that she needed to inform the Ontario Court Services about Mr Robertsons mental conditions and tendencies. So she wrote a letter addressed to the Ontario Court Services saying that she believes that Mr Robertson has been suffering from acute paranoia in regards to white races and that he thinks that they will try to harm him.

I first started with the body of the character figuring out his height and weight and appearance as I chose to make him slim.
Alexandra Switzer
I then played around with the colours and chose dark greys as Thomas is usually wearing a dull coloured suit. I played around with the material fabric to make it loo more realistic.

After sending it to Maximo I opened up photoshop to start the animation process.
